Overview

Takaosan Onsen Gokurakuyu is a day-trip hot spring facility directly connected to Keio Line Takaosanguchi Station. Since opening in 2015, it has become an essential destination for hikers visiting Mt. Takao.

The natural hot spring water, drawn from approximately 1,000m underground, is an alkaline simple spring known for its skin-smoothing properties. Its unbeatable location right at the station exit makes it the perfect way to cap off a day of hiking on Mt. Takao.

Highlights

The Post-Hike Golden Route

After enjoying Mt. Takao’s various trails, take the cable car or lift down, then head straight to Gokurakuyu. The routine of soaking in the hot spring followed by a meal before heading home has become the standard Mt. Takao hiking experience.

Open from 8 AM

Opening earlier than most day-trip hot springs at 8 AM, it is technically possible to stop by before an early morning hike, though most visitors come after their trek.

Seasonal Outdoor Bathing

The outdoor baths offer views of the surrounding trees, providing fresh green scenery in spring and stunning autumn foliage views. The autumn leaf season is particularly spectacular.

Nearby Trails

  • Mt. Takao (599m): Japan’s most-visited mountain with seven different trail options, directly accessible from the station
  • Takao to Jinba Traverse: A popular 15km ridge walk. Gokurakuyu is the perfect reward after completing the traverse
